(Chi Mei)

How much is ABS per kilogram? Today's quotes — match the right grade or you will be burned
How much is ABS per kilogram?
A quick search shows quotes ranging from CNY 10/kg to CNY 19/kg — a spread wider than the impact strength itself. Some buyers say the CNY 11 Lihuayi grade works fine; others insist only the CNY 12 CHIMEI PA-757K counts as stable. Where does the difference really lie?
Honestly, anyone asking "how much is ABS per kilo" probably has not yet understood that ABS is not a single material — general-purpose, high-impact, high-flow, flame-retardant, plating and heat-resistant grades each carry a different price. Comparing a general-purpose quote with a flame-retardant one is not price comparison; it is how you get fooled.
1. Mainstream grade quotes (imported + domestic)
Here are the high-volume grades and reference prices on the market. Figures below are recent market references; live prices are subject to same-day inquiry.
Chi Mei
PA-757K, general-purpose high-rigidity grade, approx. CNY 11-12/kg. Made by Zhenjiang Chi Mei; injection grade; the workhorse grade for housings, toys and daily products.
PA-757, general-purpose high-gloss grade, approx. CNY 12-13/kg. Made by Chi Mei Taiwan; high gloss, high rigidity; appliance housings.
PA-709, high-impact grade, approx. CNY 16/kg. Ultra-high impact; helmets, safety hats, automotive parts.
LG Chem
HI-121H, general-purpose high-flow grade, approx. CNY 11/kg. Made by LG Yongxing; cost-effective; appliance housings, toys.
AF-312C, flame-retardant V0 grade, approx. CNY 18-20/kg. Halogen-free flame retardant; electronic housings.
BASF
HI-12, general-purpose grade, approx. CNY 18-19/kg. Terluran series; high impact, high gloss; automotive interiors, appliances.
Jilin Petrochemical (Chinese major)
0215A, general-purpose grade, approx. CNY 10-12/kg. Domestic workhorse; cost-effective; general injection molding, toys.
Lihuayi (Chinese major)
Lihuayi general-purpose grade, approx. CNY 10-11/kg. The domestic value pick; general products.
In short: general-purpose CNY 10-13, high-impact CNY 14-18, flame-retardant CNY 18-25, plating/heat-resistant CNY 15-22. The performance you need decides which tier you belong in.
2. Why do ABS prices differ so much
The ABS price gap mainly hides in four factors.
First, rubber content. The higher the rubber content, the better the impact resistance and the higher the price. High-impact grades cost 30-50% more than general-purpose.
Second, flow. High-flow grades suit thin-wall molding and process faster, so they cost more; general flow sits in the middle.
Third, functional modification. Flame retardancy, plating, heat resistance and UV resistance all add cost. You are not buying pure ABS — you are buying an ABS solution with additives.
Fourth, brand and origin. Imports carry a premium but offer batch stability; domestic grades offer value but uneven quality. For the same general-purpose grade, Chi Mei costs 10-20% more than Jilin Petrochemical — you pay for quality control and R&D.
3. Procurement pitfalls: don't let the impact strength fool you
I have seen too many buyers end up choosing the cheapest CNY 10 material after endless price comparison, only to have parts crack on the first drop, lack gloss and get returned — one loss enough to buy half a year of good material.
Procurement of ABS is deeper water than you think. Three traps must be avoided:
First, test melt flow index and impact strength instead of trusting the grade name. Performance of the same grade can fluctuate between batches. Test against the COA before use. Don't listen to salespeople saying "close enough" — close enough is far apart.
Second, watch out for substitution fraud. Some traders sell recycled as virgin, or general-purpose as high-impact. Demand the COA, a property report and original packaging. Only accept material with all three.
Third, don't compare unit price alone — calculate total cost. Material A at CNY 10/kg yields a 5% defect rate; material B at CNY 13/kg yields 1%. Per finished part, B is actually cheaper.
4. Standard grades not enough? Consider modified compounds
If standard grades always fall short — you need flame retardancy AND high flow, reinforcement AND plating, or heat resistance AND UV resistance — the problem is not ABS itself; you don't need standard ABS, you need modified ABS.
Ningbo Kolong New Materials is developing high-performance modified ABS solutions, with grades covering halogen-free flame retardancy, glass-fiber reinforcement, plating grades and heat-resistant grades. For special needs, message us for a modified ABS quote reference — it saves not only money but also trial-and-error time compared with buying base resin and tuning additives yourself.
In plain terms: standard grades are a big pot of shared rice; modified compounds are a dish cooked to order. The higher your requirements, the more you need customization.
5. Popular grades — same-day quotes via message
All prices above are references. ABS prices change daily — crude oil, styrene, butadiene and exchange rates all move.
If you need same-day quotes for specific grades from Chi Mei, LG, BASF or Jilin Petrochemical, message us and we will send a live price sheet. No beating around the bush — real numbers.
Final words
For ABS, the difference between CNY 10 and CNY 19 is not CNY 9.
Unit price is the threshold; choosing the right impact strength and flow is the baseline. Don't let the quote sheet fool you — you are not buying one kilogram of plastic, you are buying a solution for making parts that pass. Do the math per finished part, add in the loss from rejected goods, and you will know who is truly cheap and who is truly expensive.
