(2) Fillers — unreinforced is cheap, GF mid-range, CF most expensive; fillers decide strength, conductivity and price. (3) Functional modification — hydrolysis resistance, UV resistance, medical and food grades all add cost; medical grades need certification and can double the price. (4) Brand and origin — for the same general grade, Evonik costs 20-30% more than Wanhua, paying for quality control and R&D.
3. Procurement pitfalls
The cheapest material often lacks transparency or hydrolysis resistance, causing returns. Three traps to avoid:
First, test density and MFI against the COA instead of trusting the grade name. Second, watch for substitution: some traders sell PA6 as PA12 or general as transparent; demand the COA, a datasheet and original packaging. Third, calculate total cost: A at CNY 50/kg with a 5% defect rate vs. B at CNY 80/kg with 1% — B is cheaper per part.
4. Standard grades not enough? Consider modified compounds
If you need flame retardancy AND high flow, reinforcement AND transparency — you need modified PA12.
